GS Scale 2022 PA – GS Pay Scale 2022 – Around 1.5 million federal employees working in civilian white-collar positions are covered by the General Schedule (GS) pay system (sometimes known as the “GS Pay Scale”). In The GS Pay Scale, How Many Pay Grades Are There?
Each of the 15 General Schedule’s pay levels is explained below. Based on the qualifications required and the level of responsibility and complexity of the work the post is classified by the Federal agency. These are the most common qualifications for the grades:
- GS-2 positions need just a high school education and no extra work experience in order to be considered.
- These positions are filled with college professors. Bachelor’s degrees are the highest educational level.
- The GS-9 position requires a Master’s degree.
What Is The Procedure For Moving Up Steps In The GS Pay Scale?
There are 10 steps for all 15 grades of pay (steps 1-10). Progressing to the next grade (also known as “within-grade step raises”) is contingent on satisfactory work results and a variety of tenures, as follows:
- Step 1-3 for 1 year;
- Step 4-6 for 2 years;
- Step 7-9 for 3 years.
Each stage is worth about 3% of a federal employee’s compensation in terms of wage differential.
When Will There Be a 2022 Government Pay Raise?
It is common for that the General Schedule basic pay schedule to be reviewed annually in January, with the overall increase in federal pay dependent on increases across the country in pay and salaries for private sector employees. Locality pay is a geographical-based percentage rate that represents the wages of non-federal workers in certain geographic regions as established by surveys done by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and is available to the majority of GS employees.
What are the Current GS Locality Pay Areas?
In the USA, there are currently more than 40 locality pay regions that span the lower 48 states and that include the District of Columbia in addition to Alaska, Hawaii, and the United States territories and possessions. Major metropolitan regions (such such as Los Angeles, New York and Washington, DC) are covered by the majority of the locality pay zones and two of them cover whole States (Alaska and Hawaii) as well as the remainder of the United States, including its possessions and territories, is included in the general Rest of the United States (RUS) locality pay area. Locality pay isn’t available to GS employees working in other countries. Congress and the president are authorized to make changes. Congress have the authority to modify the otherwise applicable across-the-board and locality pay formulas.
When it comes to particular jobs at GS grade levels in certain geographic locations, the OPM might approve rates that are higher than standard GS rates.
